This year’s biennial Pacific Cup, the 2,070nm race to Hawaii, turned into one of the more challenging races in recent times due to light to medium air conditions. The fleet of 62 boats took off from San Francisco on their way to Kaneohe, Hawaii on Oahu’s north shore in near drifting conditions at times. In the Weems & Plath Division, the J/105 FREE BOWL OF SOUP, sailed by Eric Hopper & Doug Schenk from Portland Yacht Club, started in the lead and never relinquished it, winning by 5+ hours.
