Over 100 boats competed in the 2023 race across Lake Michigan from Chicago to St Joseph Michigan. This year will be remembered as one of the fastest and most beautiful races. With 10 to 15 kts from the southeast, the fleet sailed a tight reach at the start. The wind was forecast to clock around to the southwest during the night. It was a beautiful sunset over the city of Chicago to the west, a nearly full blue moon rising in the east and temperature in the 70s. The wind built and clocked as forecasted, but still a beam reach. The seven-boat J/105 section was close, with the top three boats finishing within 3 minutes of each other.
