Since 1993, the Screwpile Lighthouse Challenge has been a Chesapeake Bay three-day regatta held every July. Hosting the event was the Southern Maryland Sailing Association. The regatta started on July 22, but it was too hot and too sunny for the wind to develop much anywhere on the Bay.
