J/105 Fleet 5 Chicago organized J/105 one-design racing in the South Shore Yacht Club Queens Cup Race. 10 foot waves and 30 knots of wind greeted the sailors early in the morning prior to the start. As the day progressed, winds settled to 15 knots at the 3:55pm start of this 79 NM race across Lake Michigan to St. Joseph, MI. Winds slowly diminished as the night race across the lake progressed – which created a race lasting approximately 24 hours for the J/105 fleet. Competing in the event were nine J/105s – Smokin’ J, Esprit d’Ecosse, Global Nomads, Buzz, The Asylum, Attitude, Striking, Phantom and Peregrine. Angry Sloth was entered but unable to compete. Winners of the event: 1st place Buzz, 2nd place Attitude, 3rd place Peregrine.
