The first major regatta of the season on San Francisco Bay for the St. Francis Yacht Club is the annual Spring Fest held after Easter weekend. Fleets were treated to good weather with six races held for the two-day event. At two-dozen boats strong, the J/105s always enjoy incredibly tough competition for the largest fleet on the Bay. The podium was not determined until the final race on Sunday. Winning was Doug Bailey’s AKULA with a scoreline of 1-1-1-3-8-6 for 20 points. Just one point shy was Ryan Simmons’ BLACKHAWK with a 4-3-5-5-1-3 tally for 21 points. Rounding out the top trio was BEAST OF BURDEN (Scott Sellers/ Geoff McDonald/ Harrison Turner) with a scoreline of 2-8-2-10-7-1 for 30 points. Mike Donohue’s ZUNI BEAR was in fourth place and Tim Russell’s NENE in fifth place. For more StFYC Spring Fest information, visit https://yachtscoring.com/emenu.cfm?eID=16424.
